The
Normal Review is the official literary arts publication of Montclair
State University, and a service organization of the Student Government
Association, Inc. It is a student-run organization that publishes the
literary works of Montclair's student body, including, but not limited
to, poetry, prose, creative non-fiction, and drama. Established
in 1926, the literary tradition on the Montclair campus is a long one.
Its newest incarnation as The Normal Review is merely a new name for an
old organization.
The
magazine is published at the end of both the Fall and Spring semesters.
Submissions are accepted the semester prior to publication. All work is
evaluated by the staff and the Editorial Board. All work is subject to
grammatical checks and proofreading. No work is ever edited in a way
that alters the original meaning or content of the writer. However, The
Normal Review will not publish any work that is derogatory, demeaning,
or vulgar. Discretion is left to the Editorial Board.
The
Normal Review is run by an executive board, whose members are elected
annually and take office at the first meeting of the Fall semester. The
Executive Board includes a Managing Editor, Secretary, Treasurer, and
two Literary Editors: the Poetry Editor and the Prose Editor. The
Managing Editor, Prose Editor, and Poetry Editor also serve as the
organization's Editorial Board, overseeing the evaluation of
submissions. The magazine staff consists of many students, each with
varying majors and interests. The Normal Review is in no way relegated
to English majors, although many of our members do gear their studies
in that direction.
In
addition to the students, a Faculty Advisory Board is called upon
throughout each semester for advice, information, and encouragement.
The Faculty Board consists of several university professors that offer
their talents, guidance, and experience to assist the student editors
in publishing a professional and extraordinary magazine.
The
Normal Review meets weekly to go over submissions and other group
business. The initial meetings of the semester will determine deadlines
and other important dates, such as those for special events.
The Normal Review is looking for students interested in assisting in the publication of the magazine in areas including:
